A hospital is a health care institution providing patient treatment by specialized staff and equipment. Hospitals are usually funded by the public sector, by health organizations, health insurance companies, or charities. Today, hospitals are largely staffed by professional physicians, surgeons, and nurses. There are over 17,000 hospitals in the world.

 

HIS are comprehensive, integrated information systems designed to manage the medical, administrative, financial and legal aspects of a hospital and its service processing. The aim of an HIS is to achieve the best possible support of patient care, outcome and administration by presenting data where needed and acquiring data when generated with networked electronic data processing.
Hospital Information System (HIS) is vital to decision making and plays a crucial role in the success of the organization.

 

 

Computerization of the medical records and documentation has resulted in efficient data management and information dissemination for the users.

 


"Outpatient" is a patient who is not hospitalized for 24 hours or more but who visits a hospital, clinic or associated facility for diagnosis or treatment. Treatment provided in this fashion is called ambulatory care/outpatient. "Inpatient" is a patient who has to be admitted to the hospital, primarily so that he/she can be closely monitored during the procedure and recovery.
Inpatient and outpatient are common terms in the medical field that can be used to describe a variety of care or facilities available to patients.
